Titanic Beach Readers Club Updates

Introduction
To what TBR is
Titanic Beach Readers Club (often referred to as Titanic or TBR) is an engaging reading, writing, and activity club hosted at a small government school in Sakumono, Greater Accra, Ghana, near Titanic Beach (hence the name). Currently, there are 35 members, all between the ages of 7 and 11, who are eager to learn. Here at TBR, we treasure honesty, communication, patience, and authenticity.

About
The founder of TBR
Hi! My name is Eline Gadegbeku and I am 13 years old. As a little girl, I enjoyed reading and writing very much and as I grew older I felt a small spark inside of me to share this love with others. And, with the help of my wonderful mother, I launched a book reading club in October 2024, hosted at underprivileged school in my community. Even though I initially went in not knowing what to expect and guided only by the small spark inside of me, as weeks went by I fell completely in love. This club has taught me so much about patience, leadership, and responsibility. Additionally, I have learned more about the Ghanian Public Education System by seeing how the children behave, read and write. It also gave me more drive to stay consistent with these children so they can grow up to be intellectual people no matter how much the Ghana education system might knock them down. If I could turn back time I would have started this club sooner because the impact that this club has made on the children, the school, my family and me is truly awe-inspiring!

Background
The name Titanic Beach Readers club is derived from the beach that is closely located to the school that we host the club at: Titanic Beach. Fun Fact: Titanic Beach was named after an abandoned ship that was once located along the shore. Of course it wasn't the actual Titanic but I see where they got the reference from! Also, the first letter for each word in Titanic Beach Readers form TBR which is actually an acronym for: 'To Be Read' which perfectly fits into our theme for this club!

Our Aims
-
Our first aim for Titanic Beach Readers is to build a community where learning does not have to be a boring or overly complicated thing. Rather we teach children that learning can and is fun!
-
Our second aim is to beat some of the archaic learning styles out of the children by raising children who all can read and write fluidly (as expected of their age group) and to have basic manners and morals.
